DEPARTMENTAL METHOD CONDEMNED. Duncdin, .Jan. 24. At a meeting of the Jtago Education Board to-day exception was taken to the resolution carried at the recent meeting of the Educational Institute in Wellington, urging the selection and appointment of teachers by the department in Wellington. Several speakers condemned the departmental methods, and urged that the boards and scjiool committed representing the parents had a right to a voice in the appointment of teachers, both in the interests of teachers and of education. A resolution was carried setting forth that any curtailment of the powers of the board and committees in the appointment of teachers would be strongly resented. It was decided to place the board's view: 'before the Minister for Education.
