ON THE SEA.
HOSPITAL SHIPS. FRESH GERMAN PRESS CAMPAIGN. CHARACTERISTIC ALLEGATIONS. Received Jan. 14, 10.5 p.m. London, Jan. 14. Though some of Hie German papers suggest that the Rewa was struck by a mine, others have commenced a fresh campaign against hospital ship*, including the revival of the accusations of the misuse of the Red Cross. The Koelnische Volks Zeitung alleges that Spanish officers left the ship because they discovered it was carrying troops, who were supposed to I>e suffering from fever, yet really were quite fi&iltuy. This was not the first time there was a similar misuse. The greater part oi the Dardanelles withdrawal was effected by means of hispital ships, carrying a tew wounded but many unwounded. Otherwise the greater part of the Dardanelles troops would have been destroyed. The newspaper concludes by suggesting that the Germans should destroy all hospital ships The British Admiralty states it has been definitely ascertained that there were no mines in the vicinity of the Rewa.
BATTLE WITH U-BOAT. l # NIL DESPERANWM. Received Jan. 14, 3.5 p.m. London, Jan. 13. A special committee publishes information describing how the crew of the J. Luekenbaah had a four hours' battle with a U-boat. The ship fired two hundred rounds until its guns were disabled. It sent out wHreless calls. An American destroyer replied: v "Coming; don't surrender!" The ship replied: "Never!" Finally the destroyer drove off the submarine. .
ADMIRALTY CHANGES. A DIRECTOR OF EXPERIMENTS. London, Jan. 13. The Admiralty changes include the promotion of Mr. Charles Meiz, electrical engineer, as unpaid director of experiments and research.
BRITISH STEAMER SUNK. SUBMARINE IGNORES SURVIVORS. - Received Jan, 14, 5.0 p.m. I 1 Paris, Jan. 13. It is reported that submarines torpedoed a British steamer of 4180 tons in the Mediterranean. The ship sank in three minutes. The submarine rose, but did not attempt to help the crew clinging to upturned boats. A French vesesl rescued the captain, two officers, and fourteen of the crew.
