MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH BUSINESS. RETURNS FOR DECEMBER QUARTER. During the quarter ended December 31, 1917, 37 sittings, civil and criminal, of the Magistrate's Court at New Plymouth were held, 35 being presided over bv the Magistrate and two by Justices of (he Peace. The return of business for the quarter is as follows: Aggregate, amount sued for, £2753 12s f»d; amount claimed in cases tried, £Il(i<» lus Id; amount recovered. £ll3B 13s 3d; applications heard in court or chambers, 22; orders made, "other than on judgment summons), (i; plaints entered, 173; distress warrants issued, 10: orders made on I judgment, summonses, 3; warrants of committal issued, nil; summonses and other processes served within two utiles, H; ditto, over two miles, 7; warrants of committal executed by bailiff, nil. Civil fees paid in stamps amounted to £l2O ss, and licensing fm paid in clamps to £1 ]<!. The number of persons taken into custody or apprehended was 108, made up of 9(1 males and 12 females.
