Mr. Ward Price interviewed Diaz, who stated that the British in the Montello sect or arc holding the post of honor on 'the Piave. The British made a magnificent impression. They were troops worthy of England. He added that the holding of the Piave line' since the great withdrawal was one of the defensive successes of the war. The Italians had deIcriniucdly stood the supreme war test, namely, that of retreat.

Italian official: English and French batteries repeatedly shell positions and the rear areas between Vidor and Ponte della Griula, with excellent results. The British patrols forced the Piave at some points.
