«~— • -m- __ SUDDEN DEATH AT NELSON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, .Tan. 8. The death occurred suddenly to-day of Thomas Field, founder of the Wilkins and Field Hardware Company. His age was eighty-five and he was a well-known citizen of Nelson and the West Coast in the early days. Deceased was on a visit from Auckland, where he had Jeen living for some years past. At the adjourned inquest on the child Lynd.i Maud Mitchell, who was killed on Christmas Eve by a motor-car, the coroner found that deceased met her death through being run over br a car driven by R. Hamilton, Jan. 7. At NgaruawaJiia, Gray, an engineer, resident in Hamilton, when riding a motor-cycle, collided with the AucklandRotorua express at the crossing at •Honotiu. Gray was carried for twenty yards and his cycle was knocked on a cattlestop. Gray wa, taken to the Waikato hospital. His injuries are slight. SCALDED TO (DEATH. Rotorua, Jan. 7. A Maori girl five years of age, named Riria Pakurangi, got into a bath which had just been cleaned out at Ohinemntu on Saturday. The water was so hot that the child was fatally scplded. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. Another child was severely scalded in the same, bath on Sunday. DEATH FROM SLEEPING DRAUGHT. Christchurch, Last Night. An inquest was held concerning the (loath of Marmaduke Goo. vVallioli, a well-known Christchurch dentist, to-day. The evidence showed that deceased had been in bad health for some time past, and had been suffering from insomnia. A doctor was called this afternoon, and statod lie found Walli.h suffering from the effects of poisoning caused by a sleeping draught, aggravated by chronic kidney disease.
