LAND JOBBERY.-Auatralian-N.Z. Cable Association. Adelaide, Jaii The report of the Royal Commission inquiring into the purchase of land for soldiers and other purposes by the Vaijghan Government states that, evidence points to the conclusion that Mr. A' XV. Styles, then Chief Secretary, betrayed his trust as Minister and assisted an agent, enabling the latter to maice a profit of £4OOO.
Referring to the proposed purchase of land for £232,000, the commission states that, thp land is not worth £158.000. The Government valuator wilfully put untrue values on the land FEDERAL POLITICAL CRISIS. Melbourne, Jan. 5. At a meeting the National Party decided not to support any action" that would hand over the Government to the Labor Party. A motion tlmt Mr. Chapman he entrusted with the formation of a Cabinet was overwhelmingly defeated. The Cabinet meets to-day. It is doubtful whether any action will be taken until next week" TASMANIAX REVENUE. Tlobart, Jan. 5. The half-year's revenue increased by £50,000 compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
