THE BIG BOOM FOR THE BAND. j 'Mere is no mistaking the 'interest and the feeling of anticipation which exists amongst the general public in connection with the monster band carnival being arganiscd for Thursday next, December 27 (t.bolay after Boxing Day). Competitors in the school children's events have been received from both town and country, special attention being centred on the dancing -sets," for which there are so far eight entries, this forming quite a feature, which will be going on throughout [the afternoon simultaneously with other events. The tug-o'-war is going to be exciting, too, the Waihi school competing in both these "star" events. Donations for thse stalls will be gladly received by the ladies. At night a gram open-air entertainment will be put on, inclining musical terns from the lake by the members of the Male Choir and others, fancy dancing sets, and popular selections by the baud; in fact, the park promises to be a veritable Venetian carnival, the recent installation of extra lights in the grounds lending a brilliant spectacle to the eye. The funds, as is well known, will be devoted to the new oandroom fund, and given fine weather, should result in that fund receiving a considerable, lift.
