WESTERN ATTACK.
BRITISH FRONT STIFFENING. CONFIDENT IN FACING COMING BLOW. London, Dec. 17. Mr. Murdoch, writing from headquarters, says the British front is stiffening for any possible onslaught. The enemy is daily increasing his concentrations, but the British face with the utmost confidence the enemy's boast that j he is preparing for a decisive drive. We have enormous masses of artliltry, and every reason for faith in the sticking powers of our soldiers. There may be some surprises in store for the Boche. Also it must be remembered that the great French army, little used in 1917, stands fresh and eager for battle. Everybody is ready and willing to accept Hindenburg's challenge. Whenever there is a favorable Wind automatically controlled balloons float over our lines dropping pamphlets, newspapers and intimidating propaganda. ENEMY RAIDS POSTS. ONE CAPTURED BUT REGAINED. HEAVY SNOW FALLING, Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Reuter Received Dec. 19, 12.45 a.in, ' London, Dee. 18. Sir Douglas llaig reports: Raiding parties attacked two posts in the vicinity of tho Ypres-Comines canal. We repulsed one attack, but in the other the enemy entered the post and captured a few men. We counter-attacked, recapturing the post and men, killing or taking prisoner .a number of the enemy. Mutual artilierying is proceeding on the remainder of the front. There was heavy snow last night and it continued to-day. NOTHING DOTNG. London, Dec. 17. Sir Douglas Haig's summary last night was: There is nothing to report. A GERMAN REPORT. London, Dec. 17. Wireless German official: English attacks south of Fontaine broke clown.
