MERGED, NOT SUBMERGED.
(Contributed). The ratepayers living on the King road, near Inglewood, have just given another proof that they at least have metal, if their road has none. Some years ago they showed their quality when the three families, all there are on the road, set to work, husbands and wives, to cut down a hill on the road, which, in commemoration of the day on which it was done, has since been known as Good Friday Hill. Since then this part of the district has seceded from tho Moa Road Board and become merged in the county, and on November 14 the settlers found that the County Council had set two men on with instructions to improve and make passable for carts about a quarter of a mile of the track, but that was not good enough for them, so they came along next day with a plough and team and shovels, and gave their labor—two for four days and one for two days—and now they have put three-quarters of a mile in such shape that one of Mr. Newton King's Inglewood staff has undertaken to motor to the end of the road to deliver a separator to one of these volunteer navvies. Such ratepayers as these should be able to go to the council with confidence if in the future they are in want of a little extra help. They are satisfied, too, that ■ when they voted for the merger they acted wisely, and are not likely to vote for rejoining any road board district.
