INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Inglewood, Nov. 26. There was a very large attendance at the Recreation Grounds yesterday, to witness the swearing-in of the Boy Scouts. The local boys, numbering about 50, and the visiting boys from New Plymouth (about 25), with the officers (Major Sandford, Scoutmasters Humphrey, List and Wagstaff), made quite an interesting gathering. The ceremony was held at 0.30, and at 10 o'clock a service was held in the Scouts' hall. The Rev. Richards conducted the service, and based his address on the word "Scout," giving a very interesting discourse, which was inuili appreciated by the boys and parents present. Hymns specially selected by the boys, were sung, the boys entering into the singing with great energy. Mr. M. Sutherland presided at the prgan, and was assisted by Mr. L. Sutherland (violin). The Seout movement has become very popular, and Scoutmaster Humphrey and his assistants are deserving of a special word of praise for the proficiency shown by the boys, considering the short time the Scouts hove been in existence. Mr. Dean, who has sold his farm, has his clearing sale advertised for Friday next. He has one of the best dairy herds in the district, being mostly Shorthorn and Ilolstein, all splendid type and young, and in great condition. The other stock is also of the best. Dairy farmers are assured of something above the average, and should not miss the opportunity.
