THE NEWSPAPER FAMINE. Australian-N.Z. Cabin Association. ■ Sydney, Oct. 16. At the annual conference of the Country Press Association the secretary's report forecasted a great scarcity of paper after April In view of the report a series of resolutions will be submitted from the Australasian Provincial. Press Association advocating a reduction in the number of issues weekly or a reduction in the size of publication of the incorporation of newspapers, also approaching the Federal Government with the object of establishing paper manufacture from Queensland and other grass and weeds. EXTENSIVE MINE-FIELD DISCOVERED. Melbourne, Oct. 16. Further mines have been discovered on the Australian coast. Mr. Cook,announced that the operations of minesweepers revealed a minefield five miles south of Gabo Island, laid in deep water in an open situation. Probably some of them dragged from their original position. Long operations will be necessary to ensure that all are destroyed. Mr. Cook advises shipping that there is no danger provided masters carefully adhere to the route in their orders.
