DISTRICT NEWS.
KAPUNI. A good crowd gathered at the Ka-puni Hall on Friday night to do honour and to farewell Corporal Walsh and Trooper Hurley, who were up on final leave. The chairman (Mr. Leslie) eulogised the good qualities of the departing soldiers, while Mr. J. F. Stevens also delivered a stirring speech, showing the manliness of the young soldiers. He then presented each with a wristlet watch, which was fastened on by Miss N. Browne and Miss Walsh. Trooper Hurley, in a good speech, thanked one and all for their kindness to him'self and Corporal Walsh. Excellent music was supplied by Miss Taylor for the dance, while extras were kindly played by Misses Catley, Elison, and E. Spiers, and Mrs Calder and Mr. M. Thillips. Mr. C. Paterson capablv carried out duties of M. C, while the Kapuni ladies provided. the supper in their usual well-known style.
