POLITICAL NOTES.
" CLOSE OF THE SESSION. From Our Parliamentary Reporter. Wellington, Sept. 14. The Prime Minister stated in the House to-day that he saw no reason why the session should not close within a month. He mentioned that the country members naturally were anxious to get ■back to their farms, and that representations had been made to him with the object of hastening the business of Parliament). A great deal of important work still remained to be done. THE MEN CALLED IN THE, BALLOT. This Defence .Minister's long promised return showing what has become of all the men called in the ballots nearly made its appearance to-day. Sir James Allen said he would present it to the House later in the afternoon. But it did not appear, and the Prime Minister explained that it had been held over until the beginning of next week at liis request. The return was likely to produce debate, and he wished to get along with the estimates. THE NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS. The House spent a, great part of this afternoon discussing the delay in the completion of the new Parliamentary buildings. The complaint is becoming a familiar one. The buildings have 'been under construction for live years now, and they are proceeding in the leisurely fashion characteristic of the Public Works Department, which likes to do things a little bit at a time. The Minister for Public Works listened to the protests and the demands for speed, but evidently was quite unmoved.
