PENSIONS INCREASE

SHOULD IT BE RETROSPECTIVE? By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 15. The executive committee of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association has received a reply from the Minister of Defence to the association's request that increases in pensions and allowances be made retrospective. The Minister states that in his opinion the alterations made should he applicable to all soldiers and dependents as from a definite date, whether a soldier belonging to the Main Body or was going into camp. Ho, feared it was not practicable to make it retrospective. The association decided to reply that it was convinced that in principle its claim was just and it is unaware of any difficulties which could be regarded as making the proposal impracticable.
