DOES IT PAY NEW ZEALAND TAXES? "Whether a firm trading in New Zealand as Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Australia, Ltd., is not registered in New Zealand under the Companies Act. 10OS, but merely carries on business in this Dominion in pursuance of a license granted under section 90 of tho Stamp Duties Act, 1008, on payment of the necessary annual license duty.'' This was a question asked of the Prime Minister in Parliament on Wednesday by Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P. for Napier "The company," added the lion, member, "is incorporated in London and has a capital of £45,000. Witli a capital of £45.000 the above company has works at Paki Paki, storage accommodation, 50,000 carcases; Waitara, storage accommodation, 00<100 carcases; Belfast, storage accommodation. UO.OOO carcases. The Poverty Bay Farmers' Meat Company has a capital of £150.000 with a storage capacity of over 100,000, and pays taxes on its income. Do Thomas Borthwick and Sons pay taxes on their profits to the New Zealand Government?"
