MR. GLOVER'S COMPLAINT.

•m —- ANOTHER REFERENCE IX PARLIAMENT. The other day the member for Auckland Central (Mr. Glover) told a sad tale in the House of Representatives about the unhappy state of a woman in Auckland. It was said that this woman's four sons had gone to the war, and that now the bailiffs were in her house distraining for some £8 of rant. Mr. Lee asked the Minister of Defence on Tuesday whether he had made inquiries into the case, and if so would he give information to the Housb. Sir James Allen: The matter has been examined into, and I understand that it kas been settled up in a way quite satisfactory to the member for Auckland Central. I am quite prepared to give the House, all the information, but I have been asked not to by the member for Auckland Central. Cries of "Why? Why?" and "The lountry wants it." But Sir James Allen did not give the I information. It is understood that the woman who Was threatened with eviction had allotment money to the extent of £4 4s a week, that she kept a boarding-house, that she had recently gone in for a 90-guinea piano, and that the hushand had no need to work. She would not pay rent, and the landlord was compelled to threaten her with eviction in order to get his rent.
