TARATA. (Prom Our Own Correspondent). A plain, fancy dress and masquerade ball was held in the Tarata Hall on ■ Thursday, August 30. It was managed f by tho Pukeho residents, and the funds ' raised are to be given to the Y.M.C.A. The Hall was very tastefully decorated l with flags and nikaus and looked very pretty. Favored with a perfect night a ' big crowd rolled up, cars coming from Stratford, lngleuood, KaiiuaU and Pur rarigi. The Grand March was led by Mr. and Mrs. Paynter as "John Bull" and "Britannia,'' and was done very nicely. The supper was excellent, as also was tho music supplied 'by Miss Jones (piano), and Mr. Egaar (flute). Mr. J. Burr and Mr. A. Paynter made very excellent Ms.C, and kept things moving merrily along. Mr. J. O'Reilly had charge of the tea, etc., and proved himself to be the right man in the right place. Dancing was kept up until the small hours in the morning, and everyone had an enjoyable time and voted it a huge success. The committee consisted of Mr. A. Paynter (chairman), Miss K. King (secretary), Mesdames L. Catchpole, S. Paynter," A. Paynter, Miss B. Burr, i Messrs L. Catchpole, S. Paynter, E. Askew, J. Burr, J. O'Reilly and H. Burr. All 'worked hard and their efforts were crowned with, success. Our local factory has started off again, and cows are coming in rapidly. Lambs are to be seen in numbers, and the farmers are kept very busy. Tho Tarata school girls have received the following letter from the New Zealand Stationary Hospital in France:— Dear teacher, Amongst some gift goods from New Zealand which we opened up to-day nvas a parcel from the school girls at Tarata, and I am writing to let you know that the pillow cases, etc., contained in the parcel were in the best condition and eminently suitable for our work amongst the sick and wounded eoldiers here. Will you kindly tell the girls how very much we appreciate the kindly thought 'which prompted them to give up their time to make these articles and assure them that what they have sent will be used to the best advantage?
