OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Town Board will discuss on Tuesday the electric lighting scheme as drawn up by Mr. Waiters, of Auckland, who visited Opunake and went into the details. Hitherto the fall from the Waian has been fbund insufficient for generating enough current to supply the''present needs of Opunake. The present proposal is to raise the fall (by concrete formation) at the Waiau bridge some eight feet, diverting the water by a cutting through the bank, and dropping it into a natural basin known as Ititson's paddock, lly, this means the electrical expert guarapteos more than ample power required for lighting Opunake. At the S.M. Court on Thursday, his Worship gave his decision in the claim of Susan and <Jeorge Thomas v. J. Hohia. for £3O, the value of a horse that- had to be destroyed owing to defendant's horse breaking into plaintiff's i.addoi-k and kicking the latter's horse. Mr. O'Dea. for defendant, raised the point that the land was not fenced with a suUicitnt fence in accordance with the Fencing Act, and that defendant 'was protected bisection 52 of the Fencing Act. His Worship held that negligence was shown, as the horse owned by defendant was a vicious one and known to be so by the neighbors. He gave judgment for £3O and court expenses £5 15s. The imminent being an important one it will appear in the Law Gazette.
