CLARA KEMJSAiLL YOUNG STORES RiEMARKABLE SUCCESS IN 'THE DARK SILENCE."' There can foe 110 doubt that Clara Kimball Young, the beautiful and talented motion-picture player, is hot* in the very front rank of popularity., and ;her appearance at Everybody's Theatre in the powerful "feature" drama, "The Dark Silence," on Saturday resulted in thronged attendances day and night. Miss Young gives a heart-stirring impersonation of the part of Mildred, a young art student in Paris. Mildred is coveted by Dr. Martinez, but she prefers Derwent, an English aristocrat, who is also studying art in Paris. (Derwent is hurriedly called to England by his sister as his father is dying. During his absence Martinez, by trickery, persuades Mildred that Derwent loves another. She is aibout to elope with Martinez, when Derwent returns and discovers that the two are on the point of leaving for Spain. He finds the doctor alone, and half strangles him. Mildred, becoming impatient, goes to Martinez's rooms, and when she learns that Derwent lias been there she suspects that the doctor lias deceived her. The war breaks out, and Derwent enlists. He is Winded by a shell, and is nursed by Mildred, who has joined the Red Cross, but ho does not recognise her voice. Mildred accompanies him to Ms home in England, and when he becomes convalescent they become man and wife. Martinez, who has now gained fame aB a surgeon, redeems the past by restoring Derwent's sight, and a happy ending is brought about. There are some tensely dramatic episodes, and the acting throughout is artistic to a degree. The play was produced by Albert Capellani, who was responsible for "The Common Law." The supporting films comprise "The Topical Budget," and ''Bombs," a Keystone comedy. To-night the splendid local film, "Beauties of Taranaki," will foe ad4ed to the pro-, gramme.
