'J'ARANAKi CENTRE. A special meeting of the Taranald Bowling Centre was held in the Ntfw Plymouth Club's pavilion, "when there were present: Messrs A. K. Smart, J. D. Solo. F. C. .T. Belhiinger, S. .T. Smith, F. H Jackson, and 0. X. Firth (secretary). Mr. J. D. Sole (West : F.n<l) was "voted to the chair in the absence of'the president, Mr. W, A. Parkinson (Hawera). The secretary stated he had received a letter from Mr. Parkinson suggesting that the loss at the annual tournament should 1)0 made up by a levy on the clubs that competed, and that for the duration of the war liquor should not be supplied at animal tournaments of the Centre. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report, which was approved, for submission to the annual meeting at Stratford to-day, recorded a successful year's work. The total receipts 'were £l7B Os >sd (tournaments £'l'U 19s 6d, annual subscriptions £22 4s 6<I); expenditure £IGS Is 8d (tournaments £ll9 lis 4d, Centre expenses £23 13s 2d, donation Wounded Soldiers' Fund £2l 17s 2d). The credit balance, £l3 l&s fid. is less than last year, accounted for 'by the purchase of testing machine, £G 19s Bd, and loss on tournament of £7 ! 18s 2d, due to the discontinuation of the sale of contribution tickets, which last year .broug'ht in £2l l'ls 3d. There were 43 entries, three less than the .previous year, and liqpcs are entertained of increased support from clubs further afield. Owing to the very dry summer it was found difficult to got the greens used into .playing condition, and if visitors were to he attracted they would have to see that no cause for complaint was left in this connection. A pairs tournament, which, it was thought, ftvould prove a .popular innovation, was substituted for the Champion o'f Champion .Singles. Unfortunately, only 18 rinks entered. The winners proved to bo Messrs Wyllie and Were (Waitara), with J. D. Sole and F. J. Hill (West End) runners up. In the banner competition the old system of district play was reverted to, and helped to increase the interest taken in the game. Piha.ma, winners of the western section, .finally won the banner, after defeating New Plymouth (northern section), who had defeated Stratford (central). Wounded Soldiers' 'Fund.—Up to the present £lO3 had !been received, made up as follows: West End £25 6s Cd, New Plymouth £l6 10s I'ld, Fitaroy £2O 17s, Pihaina Bs, Hawera £l6 16s, Stratford £l7 13s l'ld, Waitara' £G, interest 3s Id.
Several Taranaki rinks played in the Dominion tournament at Wellington, New Plymouth (H. Smart) reaching the Demi-finals. Rinks also visaed Rotorun, Wanganui, and Palmerston North tournaments. At the last named, New Plymouth ('H. Smart) won, and Stratford (Sharp) reached the semi-finals. A tester had been obtained, and Mr. A. K. Smart (New Plymouth) had been appointed official tester for the Centre by the Dominion Bowling Association.
The report cowhides bv thanking the clubs lor the use of their greens, the press, anil the ladies. It also notes an increase of membership, the Okato Club having affiliated.
