MEETING OF WORKERS.
RESOLUTIONS CARRIED At a moderately attended meeting of •the Taranaki Workers' Council, held on Monday evening, the following resolutions were carried:— That this meeting <sf workers fully recognise the urgent immediate necessity of all workers in Taranaki and New Zealand being organised industrially and politically for their common welfare; and, further, this meeting pledge themselves, individually and collectively, to do their best to organise the workers. That this meeting of workers view with the utmost alarm the huge shipping combines now taking place, the said combines being a dread menace to the welfare of the Dominion, the usual object of such combines being to extort huge dividends, by putting extortionate freight charges on primary produce, etc., on one hand, and on the other to emplov chean alien or coolie labor to man their ships. We would respectfully urge, the only practical way to deal is for the State* to own and control a fleet of ships, as is now being successfully done by the Australian Commonwealth. =======
