The Daily News. TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 1917. THE WINTER SHOW.

Th"o popularity of the New Plymouth winter show is such that the fixture is always anticipated with keen interest, and the pronounced successes of the past have led the executive to extend the attractions as well as to make the event of educative benefit to the farming community. The combination of displays of <h:ry produce, vegetables, home industries, fancy work and technical and scholastic work, with the very attractive show of poultry, in which tlus year record entries (have been made, should serve as a great draw, for there is scarcely any section of the community which would not find several of the classes that will attract their attention, and add to the pleasure of a visit to the Coronation Hall during the four days of the exhibition, commencing to-morrow It has to be remembered that the Agricultural Society exists for a definite purpose, and that shows are part of that purpose, the object being to stimulate a continuously progressive movement towards the attainment of pproximate perfection in primary products. The greater the advance made, the more prosperous will the district become, so that the co-operation of town and country in furthering this progressive action is essential. That is one reason why in the schedule there are classes to which both town and country residents can contribute, and thereby give practical evidence of that community of interest .which it is so desirable to foster. It iB most gratifying to find the society has arranged for a serious of addresses and discussions on matters affecting the dairy industry. It is a wise and politic move to give farmers the opportunity of talking over matters of importance to their welfare, and of receiving expert information on subjects in which they are closely interested. The utility of the show will be greatly enhanced by this means, and both the public in general and the farmers in particular should make it a point to do their utmost to make the winter show of 1917 a pronounced success, and thereby encourago the society to continue its progressive policy, so as to keep Tarauaki in the; forefront of productive output.
