THE SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN.
VALUE OF ARMED MERCHANTMEN. ■ London, June 5. The armed American merchantman Mongolia arrived to-day. It is believed she sank a submarine during her voyage. A number of U-boats attacked the Mongolia, which opened fire on them. A British destroyer aided the merchantman in beating off the enemy. FRENCH LINER TORPEDOED. Received June 6, 8 p.m. Paris, June 6. The Messageries Maritimes steamer Yarra was torpedoed and sunk on May 69, in the eastern Mediterranean. Of the 090 aboard! 56 are missing. (RIGHTING THE SUBMARINES. Received June 0, 8 p.m. Paris, June 6. Official returns for May show that there were twelve engagements between French patrol boats and submarines, fourteen hetween seaplanes and submarines, and three 'between the coast defences and submarines.
