GENERAL CABLES.
THE SHIPPING AMALGAMATION. Times Service. Received June 2, 12.55 a.m. London, June 1. Sir Jaa. Mills, in a memorandum to shareholders, states that the P. and 0. Company makes a cash payment on July 1 to whichever office the shares are re- 1 gistered in. The Union Steamship Com- ! pany's board of directors recommends the exchange, on the grounds of an immediately improved return on the investment of shareholders totalling sixteen and a half per cent, as compared with ten per cent, declared by the Union Company in 1916, and also on the basis of security and earning power which will •be broadened by the improved trading facilities in New Zealand, Australian I and Pacific waters and in Australasia [i and Britain. There will be no changes i of control and management. i
