JEWS EXPELLED. LOOTING AND PILLAGE RAMPANT.' THOUSANDS STARVING. Auckland, May 18. Tht: Governor has received the following cable from the High Commissioner:— Egypt.—During the Passover, the entire Jewish population at Jaffa were expelled towards the north, their houses and property being sacked and the population put to flight and robbed, with the connivance of the Jewish authorities. Jews resisting 'being pillaged were hanged. Thousands are wandering helplessly on the,roads in a starving condition. They are overcrowding the colonies, with the result that there is increasing misery and disease.
Masses of the young Jerusalem Jews have been deported northwards, their destination being unknqwn. The forcible evacuation of the eolonies is imminent.
The British authorities favor the constitution of a special local committee to gather funds for the relief of the Jewish whose plight is lamentable, and to remit funds immediately to Professor Weizmann, of Manchester, for the special committee in ca»,e of General Headquarters at Cairo. A special committee of the Auckland Hebrew congregation will bo held on Monday to raise funds for relief of the Jews.
