At a<meeting of the Palmerston North bratoh of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants the following resolution was passed: ''That this meeting strongly resents the unwarranted action of the Railway Department in instituting the ballot system for members, 1 as tblji procedure fl entirely antagonistic to the Military Service Act, and urges * aH branches to request the Minister of Defence to see that the military authorities carry out the intentions of the Act «od repudiate any ballot held or confooted by. the Railway Department." A TAUMARUNUI PROTEST. ' Taumarunui, May 14. At a well-attended meeting of tte Enginemen, Firemen and Cleaners' Association at Taumarunui on May 13. strong exception was taken by members to the action of the Railway Department tei taking a second ballot of employes after they had already been ballotted for muter the Military Service Act, arid considered that men should be cal'cd up in the order in which they wer* drawn in the Military Service ballot.
