MR. BAKER'S PICTURES.
TO BE SOLD TO-MORROW.
A final reminder is given that Mr. W. (1. Baker's pictures will he sold by auction by Webster Bros, to-morrow afternoon, at 2.30. Tho'salo will be held in the Soldiers' Club, Where the picture# are now on view, Mr. Baker, who is a New Zealander, haß a reputation which is not confined to the Dominion alone. His pictures have been greatly admired both in Australia and America, where they have been eagerly bought. He has his admirers in the Old Country, too, and the pictures to be offered to-morrow were, as a matter of fact, painted expressly for disposal at the San Francisco Exhibition. This is sufficient guarantee of their merit. The war, however, prevented Mr. Baker from making the trip, and lie therefore decided to dispose of them in New Zealand. They are in both water colors and oils, handsomely framed, and the artist's skill stands out prominently in every one of them. They comprise scenes from all the best-known beauty spotß in New Zealand, which ia enough to say that tho subjects are of surpassing loveliness. In water color there are such pictures as Lakes Manapouri and Late Tekapo. In oil there are Dnsky Sound, Buller Gorge, Wanganui River, Otira Gorgo and others. In all there are 112 pictures to he disposed of. The sale is at 2.30 to-morrow (Wednesday) afternoon, and this evening and to-morrow the public are cordially invited to make their final inspections at the. rooms where the pictures are no view In addition to Mr. Baker's works are many by old English and Continental masters of repute.
