SHEEP CUT UP BY TRAIN.
SLAUGHTER ON THE MAIN TRUNK
By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Taihape, April 24.
A mob of sheep belonging to Mr Sims Cooper, which was taken to the Taihapc freezing works a few evenings ago met with something like a tragedy. Arriving at the works aboulj dark, they were taken across the railway to one of the holding yards, to be kept there for the night. At this particular railway crossing there are no cattle stops, and, unknown to the drover, about 60 of the sheep strayed on to tho railway. A little later'the Wellington express came along and scattered them in all directions. On an examination being made, it was found that a good number had been killod, and many others, about 30 iu all, were so badly injured that they had to be destroyed.
