HAWERA.

Owing to Mr. Morse's severe illness, Mr. H. Coyle has been appointed handicapper for the May race meeting. At a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers' Association yesterday, Mr. W. O'Callaghan- tendered his resignation as secretary, and Mr. T. C. Yormley was appointed to act pro tern. Mr. J. R. Corrigan is the only candidate nominated,to represent the Hawera County on the Patea Harbor Board, while Mr. 13. A. Pacey is to represent the borough. Ml. E. Dixon, the retiring and energetic Mayor, being the only candidate nominated, is elected to the position for a second term. The following fourteen nominations have bene received for the nine couulors:—Messrs L. A. Bone, E. C. Hayton, A. H. Foy, J. W. J. Harding, J. Y. Osborne, E. Morrissey, C. R. K. Cumming, S. Lockhart, R. L. Hutchens, E. B. Bates, D. J. Goodwin, A. Reid and T. C. Yormley. Mr. E. C. Bates is the only candidate for the borough's representation on tin Hospital Board. Mrs. A. Coles, of Normanby, has received word that her son Cyril is r» turning home shortly, b»ing Trour.decl last September. The usual monthly meeting of the winter show directorate was held on Tuesday evening. Everything in connection with this show is working satisfactorily, and applications for space are far in excess of any previous year. This year will undoubtedly be a record one..
