The usual monthly meeting was Held last evening. Present: Messrs ,T W McMillan (chair), C. H. Lawn, J, Pinkey, P. ,T. McDonald, W. McDonald G Smart and C. Mortin. The secretary produced the balancesheet of the annual school picnic. The result was considered very satisfactory. Votes of thanks were accorded to the Ngarnotu Beach Committee and to the Stratford Dairy Company for assistant that day. s A letter of thanks was also recorded to Sergeant-Major Mahoney for his services in connection with the sciiool hand. chairman and Messrs Lawn and I'\ J. McDonald were appointed a subcommittee to interview the Mayor re band donations. The headmaster's report for the month stated that the average.attendance was C!) 3. Except in the class room oeupied by the first and second secondard pupils the school is full. They could not admit any more senior pupils. The report was adopted. A resolution was passed that it he a recommendation, to the Taranaki School Committees' Association to hold its annual meeting on a date convenient to the annual householders' meetings for elc* lion' of new committees. GENERAL. At a. meeting of the lady members of (he Golf Club, it was resolved that the competitions to he held during the season should be for the benefit of the Reu Cross funds. Appreciation was expressed of the good work done by Mis; O'Brien (late secretary) and also Mrs E. C. Robinson (captain). The election of officers resulted as follows:-—Presi-dent. Mrs. H. E. Abraham; vice-presi-dents, Mefdames A. E. Copping and D. -T. Malone; captain, Mrs J. B. Richards; secretary, Miss Wright; committee, Mrs Lyons and Miss Spence; tea committee, Mrs Howard and Miss Uniacke. The Mayor and other councillors spoke encouragingly at Monday evening's meeting of the Borough Council of the progress of the lads of the Town Bnnd. Cr. Rutherford introduced the subject, and referred to the fact that the twelve boys would*be able to take the place of the adult band within twelve months, The bandmaster, Mr. G. Ford, was obtaining excellent results, but the praciiee rooms required some attention to make it more convenient for members. He thought The council might lend a sympathetic ear to the band's requirements, As a result a subsidy of £l2 IQs was voted,, and a further grant of £3 was allowed for :e----pairs. ' The sitting of the Borough Council on Monday extended to»11.30 p.m., but it must be admitted that a large quantity of business was placed on the minutes took. , Chief interest centred round Cr. Lawson's motion re the rescinding of the council motion making a minimum charge for the electric light. It was eaily apparent in the debate that the council had no desire to alter a decision that might be reviewed again by the incoming council. The ladies of Te Wera will have control of the patriotic tea rooms on Saturday. At. a meeting of the Stratford Co-oper-ative Building Society two ballots for appropriations in the' first group were made. Dr. Carberry (No. 244) drew £ir.O and Mr. U. Dingle (No. 210) £3OO. The weather indicates that winter has arrived. So has football, and with this pastime the second school accident hai to be recorded. To-day a lad named H. N. Johnston, during the progress of the game, collided with a goal post. The post is still standing, but the lad had to be removed to a chemist's shop, where Dr. Paget effected repairs—to a scalp wound We learn on good authority that the manufacture of gold jewellery is being stopped at Home during the war, and in consequence such lines will be liard to get. C. E, .lames, of Stratford, has a large stock, and wishing to quit same is holding a nine days' nine carat gold sale, discounts from 5s in the pound. See window.
