(From Our Own Correspondent). • Gol; is now in full swing, the links tearing quite a busy appearance. Several players are journeying to New Plymouth for the Easter tournament. . A very pleasant evening wag spent at the residence of the golf club's president (Mr. F. H. Browu) on Wednesday evening, the occasion being a farewell to Sergeant 11. J. M. Thomson, who is up on final leave, "ilr. Erown. in n very appropriate speech alluded to the excellent work- done by Sergeant Thomson in connection '\vrfrh golf generally. It was through his efforts that the'club was started in Inglewood. He also allowed them free use of his grounds, and a site for the pavilion,, and had been particularly keen in keeping everything in first-class order, time being no object when golf was concerned, anil the present most highly satisfactory state of affairs as far as golf is concerned was due entirely to Sergt. Thomsons untiling efforts. On behalf of the club he then handed to Sergt, Thomson a purse well filled (sovereigns being unprocurable) and wished him every success, feeling assured he would play the great game as honorably as he had always i übyed golf. Sergt. Thomson in reply, thanked his fellow members for their j kind thoughts and the president for his kind wishes on behalf of the club, and assured the gathering that should he return safely lie would make Inglewood one of hjs first port of calls, and wished the club every success. The guest's health was then drunk, and .light refreshments were then handed round by Mrs. Brown and a very pleasant gathering was brought to a close with "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.-' Later the same, evening Sergt. Thom- | son's club friends presented him with a oase of pijjes nnd » nnnch.
