CURTAILED TRAIN SERVICE
THE NEW PROPOSALS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Railways has issued ft statement to-day dealing with the curtailment of the train services, the main proposals for which have been Approved by Cabinet as follows: (1) That the 9.10 p.m. Wellington to Auckland and the 12.40 p.m. Auckland to Wellington expresses be discontinued, and that the 8 a.m. Christchurch to Invereargill, and the 6.10 a.m. Invercargill to Christchurch expresses be run to and from Christchurch and Dunedin only. (2) That all Sunday trains, including troop, trains, with the exception of tha night express from Auckland, and the ferry train from Lyttclton to Christchurch, be discontinued. (3) That suburban trains be limited to the service for conveying passenger* from home to work and back, and th» lines, except on Saturdays, be closed before 7 p.m., no facilities for rail travel being given after that time. (4) That other time-table trains between town and country districts be reduced, in number and time, and th» hours of running be so arranged that return journeys may be completed withia 12 hours as nearly as possible, (5) That special trains for races, sports and agricultural shows be die continued. (0) That holiday eicurßion ticket!, week-end tickets and commutation tickets (workers' weekly tickets except- x ed) be cancelled. (7) That the availability of singla tickota he strictly limited,to three days. (8) That the availability of return tickets be limited to three days. This will simplify the checking of trains and reduce the work of accounting. (9) That the running of dining CMS • be discontinued, and meal intervals ar« ranged at suitable stations. The proposals are to take effect from May 1.
