THE EMPIRE.

LAST NIGHT OF "CABIRIA." The much-advertised "Cabirla/' the motion picture which is claimed to have cost £."0,000 to was again screened at the Empire last night. It will bo finally shojvn to : night. It is a wonderful picture. No one seeing it could reasonably doubt the claimed expenditure upon it, nor could one doubt that the time occupied in the producing of it wps something over twelve months. The ltala»Film Company, the firm responsible for the film, thought it cheaper and more effective to photograph the work amongst rativo scenery. Consequently, after satisfactory localities had been discovered, the artists and the properties were transported to them. Tin. picture was filmed in different parts of Italy and 111 the north of Africa. That the company made 110 mistake in its reasonings is evidenced by the success with which the picture has met' wherever it lias been screened. Last night's showing proved no exception. Let those pic-ture-goer? who have yet been unable to become interested in photo-plays depicting the period when the Mediterranean Sea alone floated the warships of the civilised nations, of the time when Rome was at the zenith of her'' power; and later, when she .was on the eve of her d'c:ine—and there ~re many—not miss tlrs otlcring. It is a vast improvement i u anything of its kind that has been srown here. The spectacular effects are move -wonderful, the acting is more natrral, the oniooker is not bored by having to watch seeming thousands of ancients pass the eamdra in line, and, perhaps w hat is equal to any of its features, it can be fully enjoyed without thouiecessity of any knowledge of RomanXjjjstory. Cf*jnmencing to-morrow (Thursday) the management, will present a new double-star programme. Marguerite Clark will make her appearance in 'Molly .Make-believe" (Famous Players) and the handsome and popular Robert M arwick will be seen in '"Friday, I.lth' (World Film), both live-reel features.
