MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
CLAIM FOR COMMISSION. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., re-heard the case in which William Humphries sued a Maori woman, Rangimoek'e Mnhi Raliui, for ,-CO 10s, alleged to be due for commission, and X-'Z which had been lent. The :C2 had been paid, and the £(i 10s only was left in dispute. Mr. F. E. Wilson represented plaintiff, and Mr. P. B. Fitzlierhert appeared for defendant. Humphries stated that he learned from Messrs Standish & Anderson that they had a sum of money to be paid to Rangimoeke and her nephew. Murray, and he undertook to find her. He saw the Native woman, told her about the money, and said he w.ouid ge' 11 for her if allowed ;l'(i 10s out of it as commission for introducing her to tl.e person who held the money. He did this. He did not know whether Mr. Anderson paid her any money. The defendant in . her evidence said that she and her nephew had an interview with Humphries and the nephew borrowed .€2, but no commission was mentioned to her. The' same day she was walking along the street with Mr. Walker, interpreter, and Humphries followed them to the office of Standish & Anderson. She did not understand wbar occurred there, but Mr. Anderson gave her a letter to the judge of the Land Court, and she eventually got the mone,, from the post office 011 behalf of her nephew, Raliui Murray, for, whom she was trustee. Mr. Anderson gave her 110 money. 1 After hearing other evidence and the addresses of counsel, the Magistrate, in summing up, said he could not ignore the fact that an entry in Humphries' diary saying that £(i 10s had been agreed upon as his commission had been made later than the other part of the entry. If a man chose to add to an entry at a later date he could not complain if it went against his case. It looked as if the entry was made merely- to bolster up his case. In going over the other evidence he came to the conclusion that plaintiff was entitled to somd small remuneration, and would give judgment for him for the sum of £2,
