DESCRIBED AS COLORLESS. Received Feb. 13, 5.35 p.m. London, Feb. 13. The Now Year's honors are generally colorless, being chiefly given to officials of the Minisu'y of Munitions and other war departments. The honors include a peerage for Mr. Hughes Graham, proprietor of the Montreal Star; a Priv\ Couneillorship for Air. Schroinor, High Commissioner for South Africa. The knights include Colonel \V. A, Trittim,who was concerned in I lit? development of the tanks, and Brigadier Owen Thomas, wlie was mixed up in the recent Mrs. CornwaHis-West scandal.

A RECORD PRIVATE SUBSCRIPTION. Received Feb. 13, 3.5 p.m. London. Feb. 12. Sii George Cooper applied fur .C 2.100,nm< of war loan. This is the largest private application that has been made, and Sir George Cooper now holds £2.f135,f10u. PRICES OF WHEAT AND OATS. A. & N.Z. Cable Association and Renter. Received Feb. 13, C p.m. London, Feb. 12. The Press Bureau announces that Lord Devenport (Food Controller) explains that the prices of wheat and oats as cabled on January 8 relate to first quality. The prices of other qualities will be settled on the above basis in accordance with trade practice. WOAIEN AS TAXI-DRIVERS. Received Feb. 13, 7.35 p.m. London, Feb. 13. Sir George -Cave (Home Secretary) slated that it had been decided to issue licenses to women to drive public carriages, including taxi-cabs. V.C. FOR AVIATOR. London, February 12. The Press Bureau imports that the Victoria Cross has been awarded Sergeant Thomas Mottershead, of the Flying Corps. Attacked at an altitude of ftUOO feet, his tank was pierced, and the aeroplane enveloped in 'flames. Though .suffering extreme torture from burns, he showed conspicuous bravery, presence of mind and skill in selecting a landing-place,. and brought his machine back to the lines with wonderful endurance and fortitude, saving the observer's life. Alottershead subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
