PATRIOTIC WORK.

-~^ l ——■■ j THE MART NEW ARRANGEMENTS Mr.?. Crooke, vice-president of the local Red Cross Society, writes:—"lt has been decided that th« mart, hitherto known or the Red Cross Mart, shall in future be railed The Mart, and be run under the joint control of the British Red Cross and the Women's Patroitic Committee. These two organisations will be responsible for arranging alter: nate Saturdays, sharing the profits and expanses month by month, but working independently of each other. _The authorities hope that this -combined elTort will not only do away with the inevitable overlapping which a dual sale on Saturday entails, but that it will ensure a greater financial result, and also encourage the spirit of unity which 'should be the basis of all our patriotic work. By having charge of the mart only once a fortnight, both committees will have time to recuperate and concentrate their energy for their following sale. We are told that the coming spring will bring a big offensive of the Allied forces, and we know that this will mean urgent need of funds to provide our men with everything that may alleviate their sufferings. We trust that the whole district, country and (own, will rally round us in the supreme effort which is needed, adn help us week by week in giving and spending all they can spare. 'lt's dogged as does it' is not a Dad motto for us at this time, and we must keep on 'keeping on,' forgetting all opposition or personal feeling in the cause for which we are working, so that the hour of victory may be hastened by our efforts, individual and collective. A scheme is being drawn up whereby different organisations, societies, and districts shall be asked to take harge of the mart for | different Saturdays, and 'such scheme,, when arranged, will be published in the local papers."
