THE BOWLING CARNIVAL.
SECTION PLAY. CONCLUDED YESTERDAY. Yesterday bowlers wore again favored with splendid weather for the third day of the tournament, which saw finality reached in all the sections save one, in which there is a tie. Some fine bowling was witnessed on all three greens, ami there were numerous very close contests, the game not being decided in many instances until the last bowl of the last head had been delivered, and this in several eases turned the scales. Particularly was this the case in the game between McKenzie (Manaia) and Dcs Forge* (Opunake). With one head to go. the latter was 6 down, but his final drive proved successful, leaving him with seven scoring bowls, and he won by 1. Olivers, with a final 5, also snatched victory in «, similar manner from the Manaia, skip by a point. 'Play was very capricious, some oF the leaders going down bartlv. In Section A, J. T). Sole (West End) defeated Wyllic (Waitara), and tied with the Waitara ship for first place, each having two matches to go. They botili scored wins in the next round, and were defeated in the final, thus tieing foi supremacy in the section In Section B. Foy went through the day unbeaten, though 'lwo of his games were won l>y the narrow margin of 1 point, and so won the section. A. K. Smart (New Plymouth) fell a victim to his brother fleorgc in the final round, whilst Jenkinson (New Plymouth) had three losses. In Section C( Real defeated Elliott easily, and maintained his lead in the section. In Section D, H. Smart sustained his only loss in the eighth round, being defeated by Branch by the narrow margin of 1 point. Branch, however, was beaten by Bickerton and Curteis, which spoilt his chance. In Section E, Abbott, Who had tied with Mason, won his three matches, whilst the Pihama Jdp, in the ninth round, fell an easy victim to Spurdle (Inglewood). Throughout the day there was a good attendance at' each green, the bowling being closely , followed. The arrangements f 6r the tournament were all that could be desired. Details of the play:-*
