DISTRICT NEWS.

KAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The local dairy factory are only pvi'ig out lOd per lb this month. If weather keeps dry much longer there will lie no payout at all.

I notice visitors to the beach have a ve, v bad habit of putting a fire to the lupins, of which there are acres and ;iot only the lupins have been destroyed it different times, but a belt of trees that had taken the late Mr. R. Morro.v years to grow. The fires cause Mrs. ■Morrow a great deal of worry and unxioty trying to keep her house and out '.mildings from being burnt. It is always satisfactory to hear of the "goods being delivered," and a letter fioni the headquarters of the French Red Cross in Paris to Mr. W. R. Wright here, thanking him for his donation of £25 is very satisfactory and means for ,the Red Cross a "repeat order.'' Another letter from the same body 'hanking the Ladies' Guild for their cheque of £25 also.

There is a temporary change of pcsonel at the past office. Miss "Wright having gone to Okato to relieve the |:ost office there, while the acting-postmis-tiess, Miss Hilda Wright, has gon? to I'eatherstone and Wellington along »vif!i 'lrs. W. R. Wright to sec Trooper T R. Wright off. Meanwhile Miss Ivy Hopping with Miss I Campbell assisting were in charge until Miss Hopping (we are very sorry to hear) contracted measles and had to be relieved by a gfenileniaii from New Plymouth. Mi".s flopping had only just returned horn? from a holiday in the Auckland Uis:rict.

Mrs. J. Garcia and family have i)JCi. visiting the district some time. It is interesting to note how some, of the old farmers here. Messrs. J. Phillips, Hodson, Tvrrell and Billing, liuvo returned to help their sons this year, through the shortness of labor for the haymaking and farm work. Mr. Evan's httlc boy, who had his finger cut off in a door, in progressing satisfactorily.
