EARLY CLOSING OF HOTELS. Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Sydney, December 20 The reports of police operations during the year state that the early closing of hotels had a marked result, reducing the number of offences, but was responsible for an increase in sly-grog selling. WESTRALIAN WHEAT CROP. Perth, December 28. The Statistician estimates that the wheat harvest will yield 10,242,275 bushels, a decrease of 1,004,080 bushels. SYDNEY'S BUILDING TRADE. Sydney, December 20. The building trade in 1910 was duil. There were 5753 new buildings, costing six; and a-half millions. INTERCESSION SERVICES. Sydney, December 20. Archbishop Wright lias authorised special intercession services on. behalf of the Empire on January 7. INDIA'S POSITION. Calcutta, December 20. The Viceroy, in a speech, hoped some day would see India in a position ot equality with the sister nations of the Empire, but progress, though steady and sure, would not be rapid. 4 TERRIFIC STORM. Sydney, December 21. The wettest season recorded in the Orange district came to a climax, a terrific storm devastating orchards and crops. Five lives were lost Mrs, Campbell and three children, William James (a, prominent settler) and a nephew named Walter Oaks. They were crossing a river and were swept away by the Hood, all being drowned.
