RETURNED FROM THE WAR.

ARRIVAL Or NEW PLYMOUTH ME!.. A number of sick and wounded soldiers who returned to New Zealand by the Maheno arrived in New Plymouth last evening, and were heartily welcomed by a large gathering of friends. There wera no cot cases, and the returned men appeared to have greatly benefited by the voyage to New Zealand. They all ap. poared to bo in excellent health. A number ot returned men, including one cot case, broke the journey at Wanganui,' and will arrive, in New Plymouth tonight. Chaplain I.ieutennnt-Colonpl the Ven. F 0. Evans. Archdeacon of Taianaki, returned after serving since January last on the hospital ship Maheno, During the time, the Maheno was engaged, shecarried 15.222 patients during the 2& tripr she made, mostly across the English Channel. Including her journey to New Zealand, the vessel travelled 52.22 A miles. The soldiers she carriofi included 12,011.) Imperial men, Dili) Canadians, 2tV Newfoundlanders. 27 South Africans, 50(1 Australians, 1070 New Zealanders, and MP prisoners. Colonel Evans will probably be discharged in three weeks' time. Sergeant H. Dowling, of the Now Zealand Field Ambulance, went away with the main body. He was one of the first 'f'aranaki men to enlist. He went through the Gallipoli campaign, and afterwards saw service in France. Ha served for some time in England as a d ! spenser, and returned to New Zealand iiiifit for further service. Sergeant C. Webster, of the New Zeah>nd Rifle Brigade, returned i/s the result of an attack of pneumonia. .
