OCEAN TRANSPORT.

rnocßESs of the movement. (From Oui Stratford Correspondent). The movement to, establish a producers' ocean transport company previously vcferred to in our columns is apparently gathering force and momentum. There can lie no question of the ability of the producers to firmly establish and maintain their own transport, provided they adequately combine their forces. 0* course, various views will lie held by those who study the question, and much discussion and ■osome compromise will bo necessary to co-ordinate and organise the full force of (lie movement, which must embrace the whole of the producers of New Zealand. The Stratford .•ommittee was fortunate! enough to be able to arrange a meeting in Wellington between' Sir James Wilson, Mr. IT. D. Vavasour, of l'lenheim. Mr. J. McQueen, of Tnvorcargili. and Mr B. Richards, a member o< the committee. The. matter was lengthily discussed, and methods of procedure suggested. The necessity of full and complete organisation was recognised, .Mid steps will be taken to convene a meeting early in the New Year of producers representing all j>arts of tho Dominion. At, this proposed meeting it i-i noficd there will be submitted and adopted a workable scheme which will be acceptable to the vast majority of produce: 1 ;;. Mr. Richards also discussed tlie_ matter with Mr. )>. Jones, of ?hristcl'iurch, [.resident of the Farmers' Union there, and found him favorable towards active measures. The langer of the" Meat Trust is considered very real, and the possession and control of shipping in the hands of the producers is regarded as the best possible jheckmate to their operations.
