WAITARA.
BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Waitara Borough Council was held on Wednesday night, the following Councillors being present: His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs. Brabant, Arms, Johns, Tucker, Blanchard, and Spurdle. The Education Department wrote, stating that the borough was not entitled to a subsidy from the Department | for the library.—Resolved that the 'library account with the bank be closed at the end of the present month, and that all accounts be paid out of the general account. I From the Harbor Board, -cancelling | the agreement with the Council to deposit rubbish on one of the Board's sections at Waitara East. —Cr. Brabani said it was scant courtesy of the Boart to terminate the agreement at a mo rnent's notice, and he was of opinior that the Seaside Society should havi waited on the Council in reference t< the rubbish depot. Te Inglewood Bacon Factory aske( for a guarantee that the work nou being done would satisfy requirement; of the Council in regard to drainagi into the Waionga River. —Left in tin hands of the Waterworks Committee. The Waitara Fire Brigade wrote, ask ing for a half-yearly subsidy of £25.Held over until the next meeting. The Waitara Municipal Band askec for a £lO subsidy.—Granted. Tho Minister of Public Work', wrote stating that the prevention of damagi done by erosion during floods couh easily be undertaken by the Harbo; Board and Borough Council authorities A letter, protesting, was read, whicl will be sent to the Minister. It was resolved that 10 per cent, bi added to all outstanding rates after thi 22nd inst. Mr. Pike protested against a chargi of 10s. for water used in piaking aboul three yards of concrete.—Charge to b< reduced to 3s 6d. A resolution was passed, that immediate steps be taken to remove all build ings on the Recreation Ground Reserve erected without the permission of the Council. Tenders are to be called for the right to cut grass on the Camp Reserve; alsc application sto be called to cut grass or side streets. The Mayor Is to place before the Royal Humane Society the action of the two lads, St. George and Bak'er, in sav ing -the life of a hov during the recent heavy flood Waitara River.
