LEPPERTON.

(From Ah Occasional Correspondent). On Friday evening a social, promoted by the local branch of the North Taramiki Patriotic League, was held in (lie Lepperton Hall to raise funds, half of which went to the cemetery board, and half to the expenses fund of the local patriotic society. The sum of £5 4s was taken at the door.

Mrs. Denton, assisted by Mr. E. Hellier, played for the dancers, Messrs. Sampson, Copestake, and Lepper making efficient M.C.s During the evening a violin solo was played by Mrs. Clark and songs were contributed by Misses Lepper, AtMnson, Paul, Heppel, and Mr. Wells. Recitations were ghen by Mr. Luke and Mr.'S. Blackball.

During the evening Mr. F. W. Atkinson, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, took the opportunity of outlining what had bene done during tile year by the Lepperton people for patriotic objects. The Ladies Sewing Guild had raised £44 Ills 3d, of which ten guinep.s had been donated to various patriotic funds, the balance being expended in buying material from which a host of useful articles had been made by the ladies of the district in their fortnightly meetings at Mrs. Lepper's house. The local dairy company had donated £SO worth of prodv.ee to varibus funds, and | the Patriotic (ftnimittee had raised £.'>ss S 12s fid, making a grand total for the | twelve months of £OSO fls 2d. The chairman, continuing, thanked all tK ! public outside of Lepperton who ! had assisted in local patriotic functions. The children of the local school came in for special mention 011 account of tlieir success in collecting funds, and the work of the headmaster (Mr. W. A. Brown) as secretary to the Patriotic Committee was favorably commented on. The kindness of the hall officials in letting the hall free to all patriotic function® was next touched on, and finally the chairman expressed his keen graitfication of the way in which both committee and public had assisted to make the year the success it had been.
