CLAIM AGAINST U.S.S. COMPANY. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Dee. 2. In the Supreme Court the Chief Juslice entered judgment for plaintiff foi £733 10s damages in the ease Griffiths and Co. v. Union Steamship Company, a claim in respect of a damaged shipment of bananas. EVADING WAR REGULATIONS. Wellington, Dec. 2. Tr. the Magistrate's Court, William Dennis Quill, who attempted to leave New Zealand by a Home liner without H permit, was fined £lO, or in default one month's imprisonment.
AN ANTI-SHOUTING APPEAL. Wanganui, Dee. 2. Tn the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Edwards upheld the appeal of George Swan, licensee of Chavifnnes' Hotel, who was convicted 011 a charge of permitting shouting, the chief ground of conviction being that he failed to put notices in the bars.
The Judge held that it was not necessary to place notices in a bar, provided licensees warned their employees and conformed strictly to the .regulations, as Swan had dos;, His Honor expressed the opinion that the barmaid was also wrongly convicted, and that steps could De taken to nullify her conviction.
