RUHLEBEN PRISONERS. VISITED BY BRITISH PRIEST. Received Dec. 1, 10 p.m. Berne, Dec. 1. Bishop Bury lias arrived from Ruhleben, where he spent a week, with Germany's permission, in the freest intercourse with the men. There were no Germans near. He says he left the interneds feeling prouder than ever of being an Englishman. He obtained permission to sing {lie National Anthem, which was done with the utmost enthusiasm. Their Majesties' message of sympathy and encouragement was received with gratitude. A COMPARATIVE LULL. London, Nov. 30. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Enemy ma-chine-gun and rifle fire were active at Gncudeeourt. Received Dec. 2, 11.10 p.m. London, Dec. 1. General Sir Douglas Haig reports:— There has been reciprocal artillerying, the enemy's being particularly heavy between the Somme and the Ancie. Official.—South of the Somme there proceeds a vigorous reciprocal bombardment between Chaulnes Wood and Berney, near Massigc, in Champagne. We blew up an enemy ammunition depot north of Four de Paris, in the Argonne. Paris, Nov. 30. A communique states: Nothing important has occurred on the West front. BELGIANS INJURED BY SHRAPNEL. Paris, Nov. 30. Belgian workmen, who are constructing wire entanglements behind the Gcr man front at Soissons, have been wounded by shrapnel. RESTRAINT ON CARDINAL JIERCIER. Amsterdam, Nov. 30. General von Bissing refuses to permit Cardinal Mereier to visit Rome to report to the Pope on the deportations.
