Sir Rupert Clarke, who hold? the rank of lieutenant, is returning to Melbourne. He contracted fever whilst serving with the Allies at Salonika. Dr. Scott, for five years medical superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital, has resigned his position to take up private practice. The Board decided to invite applications for the position from New Zealand only.
Mr. A. L. Humphires, secretary nf the Taranaki Agricultural Society, leaves New Plymouth for camp next month. Arrangements have been made with Mr. W. P. Okey to carry on the secretarial duties of the society during Mr. Humphries' absence. The Right Rev. A. W. Averill, D.D., Bishop of Auckland, expects to return to Auckland to-morrow evening. The Rev. F. W. Young, vicar of Devonport, ivho was some years ago vicar of Oka to, will take charge of St. Mary's until the return of the vicar, the Rev. A. H. Colvilc, from Tasmania. Mr. Alexander Francis Meldruni, who !ias been chosen as one of the Rhodes scholars for New Zealand, is a son of Colonel Wm. Meldrnm, C.M.G., who left for the front with the Wellington Mounted Rifles in the Main Expeditionary Force. He was educated at Mr. Mather's school in Marton, at the Waliganui Collegiate School, and finally at Victoria College, Wellington. After serving with the advanced Expeditionary Force in Samoa in 1014, he volunteered again, and left with the 13th Reinforcements, and was wounded in the Somme battle. He is a grandson of Mrs. I. S. Carthew, Watson Street, New Plymouth.
