Satistactory acceptances are carded for the. Taratahi-Carterton meeting, which takes place to-day. In the Cup are such consistent performers as George, Want, and Botanist. Lady Black, who paid such a fine dividend in the Nainai Handicap at 'Jrentham, will be produced in the Electric Handicap, while in the minor events there are such promising horses as Marzaile, Rongora, Sir Agnes, and Splcndidtis. The meeting should be a great success. With an acceptance of thirty-nine hor?es in the Holi.son Handicap, the Auckland Racing Club is faced with a conundrum of much magnitude In the first place, the totalisator only accommodates twenty-eight horses, and if all the acceptors go to the post there will be eleven brackets, which sounds hilarious! And, again, thirty-nine horses would just about make up two rows on the Ellerslie track, and if anything wins from the—ahem!—rear rank it will be a marvel. Unfortunately, the Rules of Racing do not allow of Taces being run in heats, as in 'Straits. Some fine day racing clubs will limit fields to, say, twenty horses, and those .eliminated per bailot will race gome other day. Nine acceptors in the City Handicap! That's a poor response for such a good stake, and run over a popular distance, too. Possibly Colonel Soult has frightened the opposition somewhat, but Bisogne may make the big fellow gallop. It is just a question whether Mr. Alexander's horse, is quite ready yet for a. stinging ten furlongs' gallop, but. he is on the up grade, and will not be long without earning a winning bracket. Alteration figures in the Great Northern Guineas, Royal Chef in the Hobson Handicap, and Astor in the Shorts Handicap. The trio will have to show better form than they did at Waverley to be in the band on Saturday. Kilboy is a strong order for the Victoria Derby, to be run on Saturday next. Should Kilboy add another Derby to his credit, he will be following in the footsteps of Beragoon, who won both the A.O.C. and the V.R.C. Derbies.

Shepherd King, who won the Caulfield Cup rather easily, is first choice for the Melbourne Cup, to be run on Tuesday, November 7. If Kilboy wins tb? Vil.C. Derby, he may finish up as good a favorite as the Caulfield Cup winne*. Bee. has gone out of favour, and, insteai of running into unprofitable places in 'Stralia, the New Kealaiider might have done much better in her own country. •When Kooya scored in the Emo Hurdles at Caulfield, she started at a good price, and won nicely in A. J. McFlynn's hands. Coronatus, wlio was in receipt of a stone, led over the last hurdle, but the New Zealander had too much pace on the flat, and won comfortably by nearly a length. The two miles and M yards were accomplished in ".43%. On the next day Kooya put up lOlbs." extra, and started a hot favorite. but Coronatus reversed positions with her.
