WOOL IFRICES AND PROSPECTS. Received Oct. 215, MC, p.m. London, Oct. 2-!. Consols are quoted at £SG 10s. Wool.—At the wool sales 70S!» bales 'Were offered, whereof 4MI were New Zealand. There was a good selection of slipes and crossbreds, and a small miscellaneous selection oT merinos. The attendance was large, competition being keen and entirely for the home trade. Merinos advanced five per cent., owing to extraordinary scarcity due_ to the non-arrival of the South African new clip, whielv United States manufacturers are buying above Yorkshire limits. Crossbreds were par to five per cent, advance. The outlook is satisfactory, the mills being full of orders, but the difficulty is in securing labor, owing to military needs. The Government has arranged with the labor unions to allow women to work in certain combing establishments, and it is expected the combs will be kept fairly Imsy. PRODUCE PRICES REFIXED, Received Oct, 25, 10 p.m. Melbourne, Oct. 25. The Government has re-fixed the wholesale prices from October 30, as follows: Butter, 149s id; hams (including New Zealand), Is 3-Jd per lb.; bacon, lOd to Is 2d; cheese (except fancy cheeses), including New Zealand, matured white cheddar, prime, Ad.
