IMPERIAL CHALLENGE SHIELD. , SPECIAL PRIZE FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. CONGRATULATIONS FROM ' MINISTER. ; ; On Tuesday word was received that ; the New Plymouth Boys' High School i Cadets had scored a unique success in ; this year's Imperial Challenge Shield competition, by the A team scoring first, and the B team, third prize, in the senior section, and also securing first prize in the junior section. The competition, which i- held under tho auspices of the National Rifle Association I of Britain, and carries valuable prizes, was commenced in 1013, and attracts entries from the principal schools all over I the Empire. In the first year tho 'ocal boys were 29th out of an entry of 330 schoos. In 1915, the seniors were 10th, and the juniors flth in their respective sections, the Royal Marine Cadets, Deal, being first, and the Royal Australian Naval Reserve Sydney, second. There were 341 entries on this oocasion. The school's record for 1914 was unfortunately lost in the late fire. Last evening Mr. W. H. Moyes, Principal of the School, received the following telegram from the Minister of Defence: "I have very groat pleasure indeed in informing you that I have received advice that the founders of tho Imperial Challenge School Competition has instructed me that an additional prize of £2O has been awarded to the New Plymouth Boys' High School for its wonderful performance in gaining first prize in both senior and juniov Shield competitions, and also third placo in the senior competition. Please accept my very heartiest congratulations. Although New Zealand lias always won some prizes in these competitions, I understand thai this is the first time, that the Dominion has been either first, second, or third. Your school's performance is one you may well be proud of. (Sgd.), James Allen."
