Ccinpotition was very keen throughout, an excellent clearance being effected, over 200 bulls •being cleared, at an average of lG'/J-gns. White 2-year Shorthorn pedigree bulls made from 10 to SOgns., pedigree yearling Sliortliorn bull 30gns., yearling grade Shorthorn bulls 9 to lfl'/jgns, grade 2-year Sliortliorn bulls 13 to 28 gns, pedigree Jersey bulls (yearlings) lOgns to 20gns, others J 3 to 34V!.gns, pedigree Holstein bulls i\% to 30gns, well-bred Holstein bulls 11 to 17y 2 gns. On the same day, at Doug'4s, bulls made from £5 7s (id to £l4''' as, 15month heifers £ 219s fid to £4 lfls, small 3-year empty heife-s £4 18s to £5 15s, fat heifer's' £lO lus to £lO 18s.. store cows £6 Is to £9 Os/fal cows£l] 12s 6d to £l2 7s (id, 10-mjiitl- steers to £G 2s, springing heifers £7 10s to £lO 10s, dairy cows £lO to £l4.
At Stratford on Tuesday, I,lth inst., despite the wet weather, 'there was a good yarding, the majority,of which was cleared at the hammer. ' Empty 2-year heifers made from £5 15s (id to £6 9s, goot| 10-inonth heifers up to £.5 ls[ other yearling to 15-month heifers . £3 lis to £4t 7s 6d, yearling to 15-inonth steers £5 2s to £5 13? (fair) 20s 2d to 27s 7d, empty ewes 31s Id, fat wethers Us. In the dairy pens there was a good entry of heifers, but tbu quality was poorer thai* that yarded at my recentrales. Heifers sold from £S Ills to £ll ISs, small or backward £5 15s to £7 10s, averaging £8 10s Gd. On Wednesday, 11th, at my t'ljlcwood J-ards, there was a full yarding, with a good l attendance of buyeis, who made spirited competition for nit classes of stock, all prices showing a sharp Advance. A nicely-marked lire of 15month to 2-year Holstein empty heifers made £<f )4s, other empty heifers £5 *"2s to £7 6s (according to frame),yearling steers (mostly small) £5 2s to £5 13s 6d, yearling to ■ls-month hoifers £4 3s to £4 13s, mixed-coler yearVngs £3 lis fid, fat cows £l2 4s to £l4, forward cow* up to" £lO 15s, store cows £S S.s to £9, smaller framed £8 15s, dairy bulls £lO 15s to £l2, unsound bull '£ll, small hoggets 21b H to 24s 9d. In the dairy pens T had a record entry of good cattle, which s:ild very readily, the 109 heifers and cows sold during the afternoon making a very fine average of £ll 3s. Rest dairy'cows sold up to £IS lfls, nnil heifers (choice) to £ls 17s fid.
On Thursday, 12th inst., at Stony River, for my annual horse fair, hordes were sont forward in more than advertised numbers. With the excootion of Mr. R. F. Roebuck's 17 waggon horses there was very little enquiry, onlv 4S horses being eleared during the day, and a good number of those at very low prices.
At the Stratford bull fair on Friday, I.lth, there was a good enquiry for most classes, particularly Shorthorns. Pedigree Jersey bulls maoe fiom S) to 30 gns, pedigree Holstein Kgns, pedigree Shorthorn 32gn;., grade Shorthorns £l'2 to £27, grade Holstcins £9 5s to £ls l«s, grade Jerseys £7 to £lO 10s.
